Robert
A. Ross, Founder and President of Virginia
Technologies, Inc. provides strategic leadership
for the company and directs its research and development
laboratories. In these roles, he draws on broad
experience in the design and commercialization
of new technologies. Before launching VTI, he
was Senior Research Scientist in Electrical Engineering
at the University of Virginia, where he oversaw
research at the Center for Semi-Custom Integrated
Systems. Mr. Ross is also Co-Founder and President
of GI
Stimulation, Inc., a firm that has pioneered
the development of phased multi-point pacemakers
for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.
A named inventor on eight patents, Mr. Ross has
helped develop numerous commercial products, including
an optical micrometer for silicon wafer evaluation,
a mobile robot for remote inspection of transportation
lighting poles, a crural diaphragm pacemaker,
a miniaturized quartz pressure transducer system,
an advanced microprocessor-based data display
system, a hand-held digital imaging and compression
system, an interactive infrared stylus system,
and a high-speed parallel reduction network used
to optimize simulations for the U.S. Army.
Mr. Ross holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical
engineering from the State University of New York,
Stony Brook, and a master’s degree in computer
engineering from Boston University. back
